Turkey's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ahmet Yıldız, delivered a speech at the UN Security Council defending the 2019 Memorandum of Understanding on the Delimitation of Maritime Jurisdictions between Turkey and Libya. Yıldız emphasized that the agreement was signed by two sovereign states and remains in force.

Yıldız's remarks came in response to statements made by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during the morning session of the same meeting, in which Mitsotakis argued that the memorandum violated principles of international maritime law and should be considered null and void.
