Two separate fires, one in a moving vehicle on the Kyrenia-Nicosia main road and another in a vehicle parked in an apartment building's car park in Kyrenia, were extinguished by fire crews. Both fires were found to have been caused by short circuits in the electrical components of the engine compartment. No one was injured, but the vehicles sustained material damage.
According to a statement from the Police Press Office, the first fire occurred at around 13:00 yesterday on the Kyrenia-Nicosia main road. Fire crews were dispatched to the scene after the electrical components in the engine compartment of the moving vehicle with registration plate RG 787 short-circuited and caught fire. The fire, extinguished by the crews, damaged the electrical wiring and seals in the vehicle's engine compartment.
The second fire broke out at around 04:00 this morning on Turan Güneş Street in Kyrenia. Flames that started in the vehicle with registration plate MZ 557, parked in the car park of an apartment building, were brought under control and extinguished, again by fire crews.
The vehicle sustained heavier damage in this fire. Its engine compartment, bonnet, bumper, dashboard, headliner and front right tyre were burned and rendered unusable.
Police said investigations into both fires are continuing.
