The People's Party (HP) has formally submitted its candidate applications to the Supreme Election Board (YSK) ahead of the snap parliamentary elections scheduled for December 6. HP leader Kudret Özersay and Secretary-General Turgut Alas personally delivered the documents and addressed the press following the submission.
Özersay stated that Turkish Cypriots deserve a transparent, accountable and fair government based on equal opportunity, and affirmed that HP is running with exactly that goal in mind. "The People's Party is committed to establishing the governance we deserve, rebuilding state institutions and taking power," he said, adding that the public is weary of corrupt and tainted politics.
Describing the upcoming election as a turning point, Özersay said a major political shift is on the horizon. "Turkish Cypriots are preparing for a clean sweep — a root-and-branch overhaul," he declared, adding that December 6 would mark the beginning of that process, with HP ready to carry it through to completion.
Özersay emphasized that his party has gone beyond rhetoric to deliver concrete results in fighting corruption, and expressed full confidence in HP's experienced team. "All the problems in this country are solvable, and the People's Party is ready to solve them," he said, announcing that the party's manifesto and roadmap for the next term would be unveiled at a press conference on Monday.
Noting that thousands of people from different political backgrounds have rallied behind HP out of a desire for clean politics, Özersay closed his remarks by saying, "There is hope in this country. The hope of the people is the People's Party."
