Republican Turkish Party (CTP) parliamentary candidate for Güzelyurt, Aslı Murat, has stated that it is becoming increasingly difficult for young people to build a future in their own region, blaming both local and central authorities for failing to create adequate opportunities. Murat announced that the 6 December elections would bring change at both the municipal and central government levels.

In a lengthy social media post, Murat highlighted housing shortages, insufficient employment prospects and limited access to social, cultural and sporting activities as key factors driving young people away from Güzelyurt. She acknowledged the dedication of coaches and instructors working voluntarily in basketball, gymnastics and dance, noting that these activities are sustained largely through personal initiative rather than public funding.

Murat stressed that families and volunteers are typically the ones seeking sponsors and raising funds to allow children to participate in competitions and championships, while also recognising the contributions of sports federations. She argued, however, that such personal efforts do not relieve local and central government of their responsibilities.

"What is lacking in Güzelyurt is not people who work hard for children and young people, but public policies that recognise, support and build on those efforts," Murat said. She added that farmers, livestock breeders and young people in the region have long struggled without adequate investment, and that existing grassroots activities must be strengthened with institutional and sustainable backing.

Calling on both the municipality and central government to create new opportunities and ensure equal access to sport, arts and culture, Murat concluded: "We want a future where people are not left to fend for themselves and where young people do not have to leave Güzelyurt to pursue their dreams. Change is near."
