A man suspected of illegally drawing electricity from the power grid in İskele was arrested at the Derinya Land Crossing Point months after the offence was first discovered. KIB-TEK technicians conducting routine meter inspections at an apartment building on 11 July 2026 found that one of the flats had no electricity meter or registered connection, yet was receiving power through cables wired directly to the mains supply.

Following a police report, an investigation was launched and the suspect, identified as D.K.C., aged 39, was placed on a wanted list. He was detected and taken into custody on 31 October 2026 as he attempted to enter the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus through the Derinya Land Crossing Point.

Legal proceedings against the suspect are ongoing.
