Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on his re-election, which extends his time in power to a fourth term, and expressed hope that Spain would see a similar result.
In a post on the social media platform X, Sanchez wrote: "A great victory for Lula. What happened in Brazil will happen in Spain. The comeback of global progressivism has only just begun."
Sanchez, a socialist like Lula da Silva, said he hoped the Brazilian leader's success would have a positive effect for the socialists in Spain's snap general election on 29 November.
Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares also congratulated Lula da Silva, telling state broadcaster RTVE that the Brazilian president had secured a "brilliant and democratic victory" in the election.
