The Cyprus Turkish Secondary Education Teachers' Union (KTOEÖS) announced that it will hold a partial afternoon strike at Nicosia central and surrounding schools tomorrow. Union President Ahmet Karaoğulları stated that following the strike carried out in Kyrenia, the union's actions are continuing in Nicosia this week.
In a written statement, Karaoğulları argued that the 2026–2027 academic year began in an environment where chronic problems in education have deepened further, and that these conditions persist. He emphasized that the lack of planning and delays in school reinforcement works are putting students and teachers at risk, that a healthy educational environment cannot be established in schools relocated to container facilities, and that playgrounds have been significantly reduced.
Karaoğulları further claimed that teacher shortages have not been addressed, that classrooms have become increasingly overcrowded, and that this burden has been left on the shoulders of teachers and administrators.
