Bank accounts in South Cyprus were allegedly used in money transfers associated with Jared Kushner, son-in-law and former senior adviser to US President Donald Trump. The Greek Cypriot newspaper Alithia reported that large sums of money originating in the Middle East were routed through South Cyprus and directed to various destinations.
Alithia's report is based on an investigation published in the American magazine Vanity Fair. The investigation consists of an excerpt from a forthcoming book by journalist Matthew Cole.
The investigation alleges that money was sent from Israel to bank accounts in South Cyprus as part of a broader network of financial transactions believed to be linked to Gulf states. According to the claims, approximately $1 billion originating from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was transferred via Azerbaijan to an account at an Israeli bank, and part of that sum was later routed to accounts in South Cyprus.
Alithia stressed that the fact that the transfers passed through South Cyprus does not in itself indicate illegal activity, nor does it mean that any institution committed irregularities.
The newspaper reported that Kushner has firmly denied the allegations, and noted that the information in the magazine consists of claims that have not yet been verified.
