Anti-narcotics and smuggling prevention units raided a residential flat in Nicosia on October 23, 2026, at around 5:00 p.m., uncovering cosmetics, hair care products, and electronics with a total value of 507,745 TL that had not been declared to customs. The two residents, identified only as C.İ.A. and C.İ.U., were subsequently detained as suspects.
Police officer Burak Ateş testified before the court that the Customs Department had issued an administrative fine of 1,523,000 TL in connection with the seized goods. He noted that the suspects were arrested after failing to pay the penalty, and confirmed that the investigation had been completed, requesting that the court release them under appropriate bail conditions.
Judge Gizem Erciyas banned both suspects from leaving the country until their case is concluded. The court ordered each suspect to deposit 40,000 TL in cash bail, have one guarantor sign a 400,000 TL bond, and report to police once a week.
The two suspects are set to be released once these conditions are met, with the case continuing under the terms set by the court.
