Yeniden Doğuş Partisi (YDP) Party Council Member and former Nicosia District Chairman Mehmet Ercan has joined the Democratic Party (DP) along with 65 others. A significant portion of the group consists of YDP members. The mass defection occurred immediately after YDP announced its candidate lists ahead of the December 6 General Parliamentary Elections.
In a statement, Ercan said that the greatest achievement of his years-long political struggle has been the people who trust him. Emphasizing that the gathering of approximately 65 people under the DP umbrella holds great meaning for him, Ercan noted that the group includes not only former YDP members but also individuals who had been active in various other parties.
