Senior officials from Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, members of the so-called Mecca Alliance, are set to hold talks with Iranian officials in Tehran. According to information Anadolu Agency obtained from Turkish security sources, Turkey will be represented by the head of the National Intelligence Organisation (MIT), İbrahim Kalın.

Announcing the visit on Iranian television, Ali Bakeri, deputy secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said the talks were part of efforts to implement a local security approach in West Asia. He said Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Pakistan's army chief Asim Munir and a senior Turkish official would meet Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.

Bakeri said regional security issues would be on the agenda, stressing that Iran opposes foreign intervention and influence in the region. While he did not give a date for the meeting, Iranian media reported that it would take place today.

Saudi Arabia also confirmed the visit. Raid Krimly, Saudi deputy foreign minister for public diplomacy, wrote on X that the delegation would meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in addition to Rezaei.

Krimly said the trip formed part of the Mecca Alliance countries' efforts to de-escalate the ongoing crisis between the United States and Iran and to encourage dialogue and diplomatic solutions, as well as their support for mediation efforts led by Qatar and Pakistan.

He added that the contacts underlined the alliance members' key role in strengthening regional security and stability, and their determination to work with all countries in the region to achieve that goal.
