Health Minister Dr. Hakan Dinçyürek has announced that he is withdrawing his candidacy for parliament in the December 6 general election, following the National Unity Party's (UBP) candidate selection and ranking vote. Dinçyürek also said he will submit his resignation as health minister, a post he has held for about three and a half years, to Prime Minister Ünal Üstel.
In his statement, Dinçyürek thanked all party members who took part in the ranking vote, both those who voted for him and those who did not, and said he respected the results.
Explaining his decision, he said: "As a result of the assessments I made during this process, I have decided to withdraw my candidacy for parliament in the general election to be held on December 6."
On his ministerial role, he added: "I will submit my resignation from the Ministry of Health, which I have run with pride and success for three and a half years, to the Prime Minister."
Despite stepping aside, Dinçyürek said he would continue to stand by the UBP and support the party in the general and local elections on December 6. He concluded by wishing success to all fellow candidates and to his party.
