Ersin Tatar, the fifth President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), has announced that feasibility studies are in progress to transport natural gas reserves from the Eastern Mediterranean through Turkey to the European Union. Tatar shared these remarks with journalists during a visit to Manavgat, Turkey.
Tatar traveled to Manavgat at the invitation of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) district branch, participating in a two-day program that also included a visit to the AK Party district headquarters. Speaking to reporters, he emphasized that Turkey regards the TRNC as an inseparable part of its homeland and remains committed to protecting its rights and interests in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Tatar noted that following the completion of a water supply project, electricity and natural gas initiatives have now moved onto the agenda of Turkish-TRNC cooperation. "It is being discussed that natural gas reserves to be extracted south of Southern Cyprus could be transported through Turkey all the way to the EU. Feasibility studies are pointing in that direction. These are very large-scale projects," he said, adding his gratitude to Turkey for facilitating such undertakings.
Tatar concluded by saying that Turkey's long-term investments in the TRNC would contribute to strengthening the country over time.
