Doç. Dr. Muharrem Özdemir, the National Unity Party (UBP) candidate for mayor of Tatlısu, outlined his 2026–2030 municipal vision during a television appearance on Kıbrıs TV. His programme, structured around a roughly 70-page roadmap, covers ten main policy areas ranging from infrastructure and education to tourism and digital transformation.
Emphasising that municipal governance goes beyond balancing budgets, Özdemir said the success of his administration would be measured not by cash reserves alone but by the tangible improvements made to residents' lives. He rejected the notion of running the municipality like a business or acting as its boss, describing himself instead as a partner in service to the people of Tatlısu.
Drawing on his background in public administration, Özdemir stressed the principle of continuity in service. "Individuals are temporary; what matters is the continuity of institutions and the uninterrupted delivery of services to our people," he said, pledging to build on beneficial investments made by previous administrations.
A flagship element of his social policy is the Tatlısu Vefa (Loyalty) Project, which targets elderly residents not only on special occasions but throughout the year. Planned measures include an Active Living Centre, a loyalty card scheme, home support services, healthcare access and personal care assistance. "We will be a municipality that knocks on the doors of our elderly regularly, shares their solitude and knows their needs," Özdemir said.
On housing, Özdemir presented a Social Housing Project aimed at enabling young people to remain in the communities where they grew up. He said the scheme would address land provision, infrastructure, financing and repayment conditions in cooperation with central government, adding that young residents must not be burdened with unmanageable debt in exchange for a home.
Özdemir also commented on the existing amphitheatre project, calling for all public investments to be assessed on criteria such as accessibility, parking capacity, event safety and acoustic quality. He additionally committed to protecting staff rights, improving working conditions through proper equipment and in-service training, and building a stable, professionally run municipal institution.
