Tacan Reynar, the lawyer and parliamentary candidate of the Republican Turkish Party (TDP) for Famagusta, presented wide-ranging reform commitments during a televised interview, vowing to overhaul what he described as a system built on injustice. Reynar stressed that TDP's ambition goes beyond parliamentary opposition, stating the party aims to govern and deliver tangible improvements in citizens' daily lives across fields including law, economy, social security and public services.
On housing, Reynar argued that the cost-of-living crisis has made homeownership virtually impossible even for two people earning minimum wage. He called for rent controls, an updated tenancy law and a significant expansion of social housing. "If a 40-year-old is still forced to live with their parents, that is the state's shame, not theirs," he said, adding that a social state is obligated to create conditions for dignified living and that economic policy must centre the needs of workers, young people and low-income families.
Reynard pledged that TDP would not remain silent in the face of corruption and impunity. He said the party would file lawsuits if illegal citizenship procedures were identified and would report criminal activities to the authorities regardless of political affiliation. He underlined that the rule of law must apply equally to those holding political office as it does to ordinary citizens.
Criticising bureaucratic inefficiency, Reynar singled out the 15-day wait for a company name search as an example of processes that could be completed in minutes but drag on for days. He advocated for an integrated e-government platform enabling citizens to check municipal debts, register companies and access official documents online, and called for better digital infrastructure in the courts along with expanded remote hearing options.
Reynar also emphasised that a national census is a prerequisite for sound planning in education, health and public services, warning that coherent long-term policy cannot be formulated without knowing the actual size of the population.
