A tornado tore through a construction site in the Fevzi Çakmak neighbourhood of Antalya's Kepez district, completely destroying two containers used as accommodation by construction workers. Five workers were thrown into the air by the force of the storm; two died at the scene and two more succumbed to their injuries at hospital. The fifth worker sustained minor injuries.
Emergency medical teams, police and firefighters were dispatched to the site following the alarm and immediately launched rescue and first-aid operations.
Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin, who visited the scene to oversee the response, described the event as highly unusual. "We are facing a very extraordinary natural event," he said. "No storm or tornado was reported anywhere else in the city. There is no damage to the surrounding buildings — we are looking at a tornado that tore two containers apart in this one specific area."
Turkey's General Directorate of Meteorology had issued a yellow-code heavy rainfall warning for Antalya on the day of the incident. Authorities noted the highly localised nature of the tornado and said an investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.
