Turkey's Interior Ministry has announced the suspension of Fevzi Topuz, the mayor of Milas district in Muğla province, following his arrest in connection with a criminal investigation.
According to the ministry's statement, the Muğla Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation against Topuz on charges of establishing a criminal organisation, forgery of official documents by a public official, and accepting bribes. The Muğla Criminal Court of Peace subsequently ordered his detention.
The Interior Ministry stated that Topuz's suspension from office was implemented as a temporary precautionary measure under Article 127 of the Turkish Constitution and Article 47 of Municipal Law No. 5393. These provisions allow the central government to administratively suspend locally elected officials while criminal proceedings are ongoing.
Topuz remains a suspect under Turkish law, and no verdict has been reached in the case.
