Bağımsızlık Yolu, a left-wing political party in Northern Cyprus, attended the regular Tuesday gathering of former trade union officials and retirees at the Cyprus Turkish Public Employees' Union (KTAMS). Party Secretary-General Cansu N. Nazlı, secretariat members and parliamentary candidates were present at the meeting.
Nazlı responded to questions from participants, sharing the party's stance on the Cyprus problem, the necessity of advocating for a federal solution and peace, and her assessments of the left-wing political landscape in northern Cyprus.
She also outlined Bağımsızlık Yolu's approach to labour-based class struggle and its public-interest policy platform, emphasising the party's commitment to workers' rights.
Among the concrete demands discussed were a ban on employing workers outside trade union coverage, raising the minimum wage to the level of the lowest public sector salary with cost-of-living adjustments, and the introduction of a wealth tax. Participants exchanged views and suggestions on these policy proposals with party representatives.
