Toplumcu Demokrasi Partisi (TDP) Nicosia parliamentary candidate Prof. Dr. Mehmet Çakıcı appeared on a Cyprus TV programme to share his views on political ethics, merit, anti-corruption efforts, drug policy and the need for systemic change in Northern Cyprus.

Emphasising that TDP is the gathering point for those who want change, Çakıcı said: "This is the party of people who believe that this system, this structure, this order must change. If there is anyone who wants change, we are here." Referring to the party's dove symbol, he added: "When you look at us, see the dove."

Criticising the reduction of politics to personal gain and ambition, Çakıcı stressed the need for legislators who place the country's interests above their own. He drew a clear distinction between those who enter politics for public service and those who do so purely for personal advancement, arguing that the country urgently needs a shift in this mentality.

On the issue of combating drug use, Çakıcı argued that the state must develop a comprehensive and systematic programme rather than relying on rhetoric alone. He referenced a drug education programme that TDP had previously prepared, calling for such initiatives to be properly evaluated and implemented.

With TDP preparing for the 6 December 2026 elections with the goal of offering solutions to the country's problems and taking on governing responsibility, Çakıcı invited all citizens who seek change to unite under the TDP banner.
