Democratic Party (DP) leader Fikri Ataoğlu attended the candidate registration process at the Famagusta District Election Board ahead of the upcoming local elections. He accompanied DP's Tatlısu Mayor and re-running candidate Ahmet Hayri Orçan, municipal council candidates for both Tatlısu and Famagusta, as well as independent mayoral candidate for Beyarmudu, Ahmet Zort.
Ataoğlu underlined that local governments have a direct impact on citizens' daily lives and stressed the importance of a municipal governance approach that genuinely responds to community needs. Highlighting Orçan's years of service in Tatlısu, he stated: "We want the strong bond built with our people in Tatlısu, the effort invested and the experience gained, to continue translating into service in the new term. Together with Ahmet Hayri Orçan and our council candidates, we are determined to take existing services even further."
Speaking about the Famagusta candidates, Ataoğlu advocated for a participatory and accessible style of governance. "There is a need for representatives who listen to citizens' demands, follow up on their problems and take responsibility for solutions. Together with our candidates in Famagusta, we will work to carry our people's voice into the municipal council," he said.
Referring to the party's campaign slogan, Ataoğlu declared: "'The voice of this land, the balance of the state — Democratic Party' reflects our sense of belonging to this country and the responsibility we have assumed." He wished all candidates success and expressed hope that the elections would be conducted in an atmosphere of mutual respect and democratic maturity.
