The Natural Disaster Search and Rescue Association of North Cyprus (DAAK) has completed its first "Rubble Search and Rescue Training" at a newly built training facility. The exercise, held on 24 October 2026, was led by three DAAK members who had previously qualified as instructors through Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
Participants carried out hands-on drills simulating rescue operations in a rubble environment, putting into practice the techniques learned during their AFAD-accredited instructor courses. A key aspect of the training was the transfer of knowledge and field experience from certified instructors to other volunteers within the association.
While the drills were under way, Civil Defence Organisation President Hakan Balaban visited the site to observe the activities firsthand. DAAK President Faysal Sadıkoğlu briefed Balaban on the layout of the facility, its intended uses, and the content of the training programme being conducted.
Since its establishment, DAAK has steadily expanded its expertise through numerous theoretical and practical courses. The new dedicated training ground marks a significant step forward, allowing the association to deliver in-house programmes on a permanent basis. DAAK stated it would continue working in close cooperation with relevant institutions toward building a more disaster-resilient society in North Cyprus.
