The Interior Ministry has issued a written statement dismissing claims that Fatma Ünal received preferential treatment at the Central Prison following her conviction.
According to the ministry, Ünal was handed over to Central Prison administration on 27 October 2026 after a court sentenced her to imprisonment. Some media outlets had reported that she was placed in a private room and treated differently from other inmates.
The ministry categorically denied these allegations, stressing that no conduct, behaviour or practice contrary to the laws and regulations governing the management and operation of the Central Prison had taken place.
The statement was issued in response to growing public questions following Ünal's admission to the prison. The ministry underlined that all inmates are subject to the same conditions within the legal framework in force.
