Ceyhun Dalkan, President of the Cyprus Turkish Medical Association (KTTB), issued a written statement condemning threats, verbal abuse and physical violence directed at journalists, calling such acts entirely unacceptable.
Dalkan stressed that no individual should be subjected to violence because of their thoughts, writings or reporting, and underlined that attacks on journalists constitute an assault on both the free press and democracy itself.
"We stand by the free press and media workers," Dalkan said. "We are on the side of those who defend democracy, freedom of expression and the rule of law — not those who respond to the pen, the word and the truth with violence. We will not stay silent in the face of violence, and we will not yield to pressure."
The statement was released amid ongoing public debate in Northern Cyprus over incidents of intimidation and aggression targeting members of the press.
