The body of 61-year-old Olga Vasiliyeva, who had been missing in southern Cyprus since October 23, was recovered from a well in the Saita area near Limassol after the suspect in the case confessed to the killing and led police to the location.
Vasiliyeva had failed to return home from October 23 onwards, and her disappearance was formally reported to police on October 28. A 43-year-old Syrian national, who had already been taken into custody in connection with the case, admitted to the murder and directed officers to the well where he had concealed her body.
According to the Cyprus police, injuries consistent with blows from an instrument were found on the victim's head. The Limassol District Court ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody for eight days pending further investigation.
The case remains under active investigation by the Republic of Cyprus police.
