North Cyprus Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has announced a new financial support scheme for mothers with children between the ages of 0 and 6. Working mothers will receive a childcare and nursery subsidy equivalent to half the minimum wage, while mothers who are unable to enter the workforce due to childcare responsibilities will be entitled to a monthly payment equal to one third of the minimum wage.
Addressing the difficulties faced by both working and stay-at-home mothers, Üstel said the government is fully aware of the burdens mothers carry. "We know the weight our mothers bear. We continue to develop new projects and support mechanisms to stand by mothers who put their own needs aside to balance the family budget," he stated.
The Prime Minister outlined three core objectives behind the initiative: making it easier for mothers who wish to work to remain in the workforce, providing financial relief to those caring for children at home, and broadly reducing the pressures on mothers across the country.
Üstel also underlined that young people's ability to start businesses, own homes and live securely with their families is central to the government's vision. "The future of a strong country can only be built on peaceful families and youth who have confidence in their future," he said, reaffirming the government's commitment to standing by families.
