A 47-year-old man identified as T.Ç. has been arrested at Kyrenia Port on suspicion of stealing 46,000 TL from the safe of a business in Alayköy, police announced.
According to the Police Press Office, the suspect allegedly carried out the theft between 16 and 17 August. Following an investigation launched after the incident was reported, T.Ç. was detained as he attempted to re-enter Northern Cyprus through Kyrenia Port.
In a separate incident in Nicosia, a 31-year-old suspect identified as A.S.T. entered a jewellery shop last Wednesday posing as a customer and fraudulently obtained 5,000 TL in cash from a member of staff by falsely claiming his mother had died.
After the case was reported to police, A.S.T. was also taken into custody. Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
