A man identified as Ü.V. has been released on bail after allegedly sexually molesting a 10-year-old girl at a supermarket in Nicosia, following a court hearing in which a judge imposed strict conditions on his release.
According to police testimony, the incident occurred on October 17 at around 11:00 a.m. The suspect allegedly approached the child, who was accompanied by her grandmother, squeezed her cheeks, put his arm around her waist, and addressed her with the remark "What's your name, sweetheart?" A complaint was filed on the same day, prompting an investigation.
Security camera footage reviewed during the investigation led to the identification of the suspect, who was subsequently apprehended in Nicosia on October 20. Police also confirmed that the suspect was examined at the Barış Psychiatric and Neurological Hospital and was found to have full criminal capacity. It was further noted that the suspect resides in Northern Cyprus under a special exemption permit.
With the investigation concluded, police requested that the suspect be released on bail. Judge Gizem Erciyas banned the suspect from travelling abroad until the case is resolved and ordered him to deposit 20,000 TL in cash bail, have two guarantors each sign a 300,000 TL bond, and report to police once a week. The suspect was released after fulfilling the required conditions.
