The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Foreign Ministry issued a written statement condemning the contracts signed between the Greek Cypriot Administration and Italian energy company ENI concerning the development of the Kronos natural gas field. The ministry described the move as the latest example of unilateral hydrocarbon activities that disregard the inherent rights of the Turkish Cypriot people over the island's natural resources.
The statement stressed that Turkish Cypriots are co-owners of the natural resources found on and around the island, and that the Greek Cypriot Administration has no authority to represent Turkish Cypriots or make decisions on their behalf regarding these resources.
The ministry also issued a warning to international companies cooperating with South Cyprus, urging them to take into account the political realities on the island and in the region, and to consider the potential negative consequences of participating in initiatives that infringe upon Turkish Cypriot rights.
The statement concluded: "As the TRNC, we once again emphasize that, in full coordination and solidarity with our motherland Türkiye, we will resolutely continue to protect the legitimate rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriot people in the Eastern Mediterranean."
