A partial night curfew imposed by Paris police authorities ahead of renewed Yellow Vest protests has been challenged in court. The Vigie Liberté association, which advocates for civil liberties in public spaces, filed an appeal with the Paris Administrative Court seeking to have the measure lifted.
The Paris Police Prefecture had announced that a partial curfew would be in effect from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. local time until November 2, covering the areas around Place de la République and Les Halles in the French capital.
Yellow Vest demonstrators are preparing for a third consecutive week of protests against the high cost of living and rising fuel prices, following actions on October 17 and October 24. French authorities plan to deploy around 70,000 security personnel across the country to manage the demonstrations.
Previous rounds of protests turned violent in several areas, leaving more than 1,000 people injured and causing damage or looting to over 3,000 businesses. In response, the government tightened security measures, including the introduction of localized curfews in the capital.
