Two prominent Greek Cypriot newspapers closely following the latest developments in the Cyprus Issue, Alithia and Politis, have suggested that the package of 19 proposals frequently brought to the agenda by Greek Cypriot Administration President Nikos Christodoulides is in reality being used to manufacture excuses for the stagnation in negotiations between the two communities.
Alithia recalled that Maria Angela Holguin, the UN Secretary-General's Personal Representative on Cyprus, had set confidence-building measures, methodology, and tangible substantive progress as preconditions for holding an informal expanded meeting before the end of the year. The newspaper criticized the Greek Cypriot Administration's emphasis on awaiting political will from the Turkish Cypriot side during this process, and referenced a previously published interview with Holguin.
